Elderberry Syrup Workshop

Looking for a natural and healthy way to kick the cold season? Come learn all about Elderberry. We will discuss the various ways this herb is prepared and used, as well as make our very own Elderberry Syrup.
Elderberry syrup is a delicious and effective way to support the immune system during a cold or flu. The elderberries, found on the Elder shrub, have been used for thousands of years as food, medicine, and tools. The flowers, berries, leaves, and bark can all be used but the berries are renowned for their ability to prevent upper respiratory infections. Adults and kids alike enjoy this sweet syrup.
You will leave the class with one mason jars of freshly made Elderberry Syrup, a better understanding of this plant, recipes, and the happy feeling of bringing something naturally amazing into your life and starting your very own apothecary. 
Bring your hands and an open mind. All materials will be provided. Most of the herbs will be organic, depending on availability.

Kids Corner - Seed Bombs

Join My Little Apothecary at the Amherst Farm and Craft Market at the Amherst Garden Center! We'll be making Seed Bombs using recycled paper and local plant seeds. What is a Seed Bomb? A Seed Bomb is a little nugget made of clay or recycled material and seeds that can be thrown on any ground. Wait and watch the seeds grow and make a space beautiful!  Each child will go home with one seed bomb.

Not Your Average Tea Party

Looking for a unique outing with mom, or care giver? Join us in our Not Your Average Tea Party!  Come learn about the various herbs & flowers that are delicious and safe for children.  

Be prepared to roll up your sleeves and make some scrumptious herbal flower cookies and sip some herbal tea.  We will discuss common herbs such as Lavender, Calendula, Nasturtiums, Dandelion, and Violet, the process of pressing the flowers, and incorporating them into our food. 

Eating flowers? Yes, many flowers are indeed edible and contain healing power too. They can be consumed in various ways, from teas to fresh garden salads. You'll leave the party with cookies to share with your friends and family and some recipes to try at home.
 
Bring your hands and an open mind. All materials will be provided. Most of the ingredients will be organic depending on availability.
 
Who: Adult & One Child, each additional child $12R; $15NR (5+ years of age)
What: Not Your Average Tea Party
Where: Amherst Makerspace, Home Ec Room
When: May 20th from 2pm-4pm
Fee: $35 residents $40 non-residents

Kids Corner - Beeswax Candles

Join My Little Apothecary at the Amherst Farm and Craft Market at the Amherst Garden Center! We'll be making Beeswax Candles using honeycomb and finishing it off with a piece of herb and twine. These candles will make a perfect gift for a loved one! Why honeycomb candles? Honeycomb is a naturally made wax that burns slow and clean. Unlike store bough candles, beeswax candles contain no petroleum or other harsh chemicals/toxins. Each child will make 1 beeswax candle.
